SSROC plays a key role in helping member councils define their procurement requirements and scope of works to obtain what they need at best value. Participation in regional contracts continues to be strong, with SSROC procuring goods and services worth approximately $100 million in the 2015-2016 financial year on behalf of the member councils, along with maintenance of approximately 30 regional contracts for its member councils to utilise.
During the 2016-2017 financial year, SSROC will undertake numerous re-tenders of existing regional contracts, with over 20 planned sourcing activities covering the procurement of goods and services including temporary staff hire, ready mixed concrete, mattress collection and processing, and code of conduct advisory services.
SSROC will continue to offer procurement support to newly merged entities and proposed merger councils where required. Following any organisational change of the new member councils, SSROC welcomes the opportunity to further aggregate council expenditure at a regional level.
Proposed new contracts, based on council feedback, include bush regeneration, council owned lighting and an Energy PPA. The Procurement team is working closely with the Resource Recovery team on projects to improve rates of recycling, litter strategies, waste education marketing and communications and a project to establish more reuse capacity in the region.
